There are two major versions of the Shadow netWorkspace software. SNS 1 is the original SNS environment that was initially released on November 2, 2000. Based on experience with developing, testing and using SNS 1, a new version was developed. SNS 2 was released on December 9, 2001 and is the most recent major release of SNS. SNS 2 is designed so that it can upgrade SNS 1 environments. (Although the current SNS 2 preview release does not yet support the upgrade process, the ability to upgrade will be available by January 1, 2002.) The plan is to halt the development and support of SNS 1 and focus on developing and supporting SNS 2 beginning January 1, 2002.

It is suggested that if you have not previously worked with the Shadow netWorkspace software that you begin with SNS 2. Its interface and operation are significantly different than SNS 1.
